Our journey: An Answered Prayer!Through Anele's Lens
Ladies and gentlemen, buckle up, because this journey has more twists than a Somerset West cocktail menu.
I first met Vonani in 2013, when we were just two colleagues crossing paths in the professional space. Vonani, with her beautiful smile and as sharp as a tack, was already a star in my orbit, but the universe had placed us in different directions. This affirms her favourite phrase that “I was always there, but you were not looking”.
Fast forward a decade later of living past each other, it was until October 2023, when destiny decided to slap me awake at a conference in Somerset West.
Picture Anele, hanging at the bar like a low-budget movie hero, downing a raw one. The vibe was right, the stars were aligned (or maybe it was just the bar lighting), and there was Vonani. In a moment of pure, unfiltered courage or maybe just liquid confidence…uyalazi kaloku igranqa, I waved her over and said, “Vonani, come sit next to me
Believe it or not, I asked her to be my wife. No ring, no plan, just vibes and a heart screaming, “This is it!”
Ngelo Xesha Bendingayazi uba, I am speaking to the universe. Vonani, bless her, didn’t run for life. Instead, she laughed, sat down, and somehow, we started talking. That week, we went from conference small talk to us talking every minute, every hour, every day like two kids plotting. Before we both knew it, boom, we gave our hearts to each other. From that moment, we have been glued together tighter.
Vonani became my shining star, guiding me through life’s chaos with her grace and strength. We have laughed, cried, and probably argued over who gets the last piece of meat (uyayithanda inyama ingathi nguMxhosa).
But nothing prepared us for January 2025, when life threw us a curveball so wild, it could have starred in its own Netflix thriller. Let’s just say there was a bad, horrific incident.
In that moment, all I prayed for was for God to save us. I begged God to grant me a second chance in life. For this woman, this incredible, unshakeable Vonani to be my wife, my forever yena. Out of the darkest chaos, something beautiful was born—our unbreakable bond. Proof that even when life plays dirty, love plays dirtier.
So here we are, Anele and Vonani, two souls who took a second chance and ran with it. From a barstool proposal to dodging life plot twists, we are ready to keep shining together, laughing, loving, and probably stealing each other's food for the rest of our days. Here’s to us, to second chances, and to a love story that is just getting started!
